SPHERE, for one eye then it must also contain the next element called axis.
'); return false">CYLINDER
, AXIS

These are the main details of your prescription. Depending on the shape of your eye you may have all three powers (Sph,Cyl & Axis) or only have a Sphere power.

The Optician will have written your prescription down detailing the figures as Left eye: Sph, Cyl, Axis and Right eye: Sph, Cyl and Axis.

SPH: A spherical correction corrects the refractive error of the eye by adding or subtracting refractive strength symmetrically, by the same amount, along the horizontal and vertical axis.

CYL: A cylindrical correction corrects the refractive error of the eye by adding or subtracting strength along the horizontal axis, the vertical axis, or a diagonal axis.

AXIS: The Axis is the horizontal, vertical or diagonal angle of the cylindrical correction. The axis is measured in a clock face that starts with zero degrees in the 9 o'clock (or west) direction, and increases through 90 and 180 degrees in a counter-clockwise direction.

PUPILLARY DISTANCE: Usually given in millimeters, and written as two values which are combined to give the PD.

If you have any worries about the details your optician gave you of if you are concerned that you may fill the form in incorrectly, simply fax your prescription details to 0870 706 4047 and our Optician will make sure your order is correctly placed.
